A functional food can be convenient, but it should be part of a dietary foundation made of simple foods, vegetables, adequate hydration, and meals that can be sustained over time.

A well-planned vegetarian or vegan diet can be compatible with preserving muscle mass. The key is to avoid meals composed almost entirely of carbohydrates and vegetables. Pasta and vegetables, for example, become more complete with lentils, chickpeas, tofu, tempeh, or a soy-based dressing.

Combinations don't have to be complicated or happen in the same dish. Alternating legumes, grains, soy, seeds, and nuts throughout the day is already a good starting point. Those following a completely plant-based model should also pay attention to nutrients such as vitamin B12, iron, iodine, calcium, and omega-3s, assessing with a qualified professional whether their diet covers individual needs.

In the animal vs. plant protein debate, the best question is not "which are superior?" but "which can I consume regularly, digest well, and integrate into my meals?" Animal sources can make it simpler to achieve a high protein intake with little volume. Plant-based ones increase variety, fiber, and the overall quality of the diet. Together, they often offer the best balance.
